Everyone remembers the first of their youtube, whether shown by a friend, or finding it accidentally. Some only watched it’s videos when they had to, and some took to it like glue. EB remembers finding Youtube rather well:
“I was, and still am, subscribed to so many youtubers and all I did when I got home when I had time was watch so many Youtube videos of all kinds. From anime to beauty tips”.
Even today there are more and more fresh videos available at a user's disposal. So much so that one can easily lose the hours of the day to a digital screen. Some brave souls take a chance to go beyond being a viewer and getting behind the monitor. However not all of them make it, being a Content Creator takes passion and hard work. For PrimeOtaku EB, this passion was found in a love for entertaining people, and community interaction over shared interest. Even with passion, thanks to Net Neutrality anyone can upload content. Meaning the chances of anyone viewing any particular creators videos is next to none. Content Creators work just as hard at making their videos different, something innovative, to make sure it just quite doesn't fit in with the rest. EB’s trick is raw and uncut. Rather than using a script like a movie, he uses short notes to keep things on track, and that's all.
Even as a new Content Creator, EB still has to watch out for the same issues plaguing the big dogs. The #ProtectYoutubers movement is a push against relatively new policy changes by the Youtube company. This new policy pertains to setting strikes against, or completely shutting down Content Creators for their past videos, made when the content policies were much more relaxed. Some may say this is an attempt to keep Net Neutrality by regulating what can be uploaded while keeping the who. Others believe that Youtube is becoming a corrupt money hungry business, aim at whatever path makes the highest bid. All while it’s backbone of ad revenue suffers in the process. This has left many new youtube walking on eggshells, doing their best to avoid the new policy, just as much as the eyes of Moderators. PrimeOtaku says in a previous video, that many have seen one Content Creator get shut down for barely upsetting the new policy, while others only received a strike or were even ignored after violating as much of the new policy as possible. However, he goes on to state
“I feel like it's getting a bit better…. It has slowed down a little bit but it needs to come to a complete stop soon”
With all of the new policies, changes to the internet, and challenges of being a new Content Creator, EB has more to add to his plate the longer he keeps making videos. As long as anyone can upload videos, there are hundreds of hours of new content for viewers to sift through everyday. On top of that, all of the thousands upon thousands of hours of older content still remains. Whether Youtube is your career, or hobby, it has become an incredibly competitive place. The competition doesn't end at Content Creators either, fans and viewers will heatedly argue over which Youtube Star is their favorite in each and every subject matter. Just as they do for actors and sports teams. Many companies, and other business entities have thrived off competition throughout the years. However there has been a rise in Youtube of collaboration between tubers, joining together video styles and fan bases. Similar to how a vocalist from one band will join another band for a single song or even a tour. When asked about his preference, PrimeOtaku EB stated “Collaborative. Why should we say who's channel is better than the others? It's so much better to be working as one team as content creators for all of use to build views. I prefer collaborative work”.
As a team, we have already seen a higher content quality in many fields of Youtube. Not in a way that in better than a creator, but that brings more than one person/content team can do on their own.
Media is a dog eat dog world. The internet is a virtual battlefield. Yet even with these roads crossing at the world of Youtube, millions of people share their lives, interests, and skills with everyone. They will continue to do so as long as the internet laws allow it, putting hours of hard work into every video. Regardless of new regulations and corporate caps. As long as viewers stay tuned to the politics of the things they love, everyone has a voice and we can keep the internet a place we can spend hours on. Laughing, crying, learning, communicating. We look forward to watching PrimeOtaku EB grow as he continues his journey as a Content Creator.
